The Film Festival

The Film Festival is South Dakota’s first-ever local festival dedicated to showcasing films from around the world that highlight the talents of people with physical and developmental disabilities. Our mission is to create meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities and rare diseases to share their stories, express their creativity, and be celebrated on the BIG screen. The festival empowers creators to lead the storytelling process, whether in front of or behind the camera, giving them a platform that is often unavailable in traditional media.

To be considered for screening, a person with a disability or rare disease must play a significant role in the production of the film. Submissions are welcome from anyone as long as this criterion is met, allowing for a wide range of voices, perspectives, and creative approaches.

We accept both short films, ranging from 1 to 10 minutes, and feature-length films, ranging from 10 to 30 minutes. All genres and subject matter are welcome, including drama, comedy, documentary, animation, experimental, and more. The only requirement is that people with disabilities or rare diseases are leading the storytelling.

By providing a platform for creators with disabilities and rare diseases, the festival not only celebrates their talents but also raises awareness, fosters inclusion, and inspires the community to recognize the value and diversity of all voices.

Submissions for The Film Festival 2026 will open this summer. We can’t wait to see your stories on the BIG screen.

The Film Festival event will be held at the Sioux Falls State Theatre in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Date to be determined.
